CINCINNATI CYCLONES SPECIAL HOCKEY

Hockey is for Everyone

We are the first special hockey program in the Greater Cincinnati Area. Our goal is to give people with developmental disabilities the chance to play the great sport of ice hockey in an environment that has been adapted to their level of ability. Special hockey serves a wide range of disabilities and provides an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the sport.

ABOUT

Founded in 2018, the mission of the Cincinnati Cyclones Special Hockey program is to give people with developmental disabilities the chance to play the sport of ice hockey in an environment which is adapted to the level of ability which allows the athletes the ability to participate.  In addition to physical hockey skills, the program emphasizes the development of desirable individual characteristics such as dependability, self-reliance, concentration, willingness to share, and personal accountability. The game of hockey is used to develop within each player the characteristics that will help them be more successful both inside and outside a hockey environment.

FAQ

A Little Background About Our Program

WHO CAN JOIN?

Athletes may join any time during the season and they do not need to know how to skate. Anyone age 6 years or older regardless of gender, developmental disability, or skill level, who is physically able to play, may join. There is no maximum age limit.

HOW LONG IS THE SEASON?

The season will begin this year on August 28th and will run through the end of March.

WHERE ARE PRACTICES HELD?

Practices are held weekly at Northland Ice Center in Cincinnati, OH on Sundays from 11:00am-1. It is anticipated that there will be approximately 25 practices each season (including learn-to-skate sessions).

DO YOU PLAY AGAINST OTHER TEAMS?

Yes. Home/Away games are planned against the Columbus Blue Jackets Special Hockey Team and the Indy Twisters Special Hockey Team, as well as participation in additional tournaments throughout the Midwest.

HOW DOES MY ATHLETE GET STARTED?

Come to one of the Open House sessions held during the summer to meet some of our players, the coaches, and some of the volunteers dedicated to the success of this team. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, skate for free, and to have some fun! If you miss the Open House sessions, you can contact us and arrange to come to see one of our practices.

ARE THE REGISTRATION OR MEMBERSHIP FEES?

Yes. There is a registration fee for each player. Fees help cover ice time, insurance, tournament registration and equipment. The program helps provide equipment when available. Contact the team directly for more information.
